KT in strategic tie-up with IHT, Adel Abdul Aziz Al Shirawi, Chairman of Khaleej Times, said

DUBAI — The UAE’s first English language daily, Khaleej Times, has forged a strategic alliance with the International Herald Tribune (IHT), to print and distribute copies of the IHT in the region, and seek ways in which they can further enhance mutual cooperation.
A Memorandum of Understanding that was signed yesterday in Dubai paves the way for Khaleej Times to print, market, sell and distribute the full edition of the International Herald Tribune in the UAE, and in other countries in the Middle East and North Africa through its dedicated distribution and marketing network.
The agreement, which coincides with the 30th anniversary celebrations of Khaleej Times, also opens avenues for market research on the editorial and commercial development of Khaleej Times, joint marketing initiatives, and co-branding of pages in the International Herald Tribune and Khaleej Times. It also envisages future developments of the partnership with IHT into other markets of countries in the Arab world, Africa and the Indian subcontinent.
Adel Abdul Aziz Al Shirawi, Chairman of Khaleej Times, said: “Just as we celebrate three decades of news excellence, Khaleej Times is proud to announce a strategic alliance with a newspaper of the calibre of International Herald Tribune. This is an exciting development in the region’s media industry, and would give our readers the opportunity to get a better understanding of global events and trends through in-depth news analysis and comments from IHT journalists based around the world.”
Michael Golden, Chairman of International Herald Tribune and Vice-Chairman of The New York Times Company, said: “We are happy to enter into this partnership with Khaleej Times, a well-established UAE newspaper, that will allow the International Herald Tribune to tap into the vast potential that exists for global newspaper brands in a region that is witnessing a major transformation in the media industry.”
A new Board of Khaleej Times headed by Adel Abdul Aziz Al Shirawi, who is also Vice-Chairman of Istithmar World, has been constituted.
